WONDER WOMEN is a contemporary art festival conceived by the Domus Artist Residency association, patronaged by the Municipality of Galatina, which has supported the Domus Artist Residency in all its cultural and social activities in the area for four years. The festival is also carried out with the support of FRAC Corsica and the non profit French association Atelier Essenza.
This year, the WONDER WOMEN festival, which will take place from July 24 to 31, 2025, brings a renewed ambition: to deconstruct patriarchal power dynamics through an ecofeminist approach. The project invites us to rethink the structures of oppression that exploit both natural resources and people assigned as women, promoting governance models based on resource conservation, gender equality, and cooperation. The festival will feature numerous video installations in the heart of the city of Galatina during the first three days of opening and subsequently in the typical popular courtyard house, headquarters of the Domus Artist Residency.
Ten artists from the collections of various FRACs in France will exhibit their videos in the palaces and squares of Galatina. The selection of video installations will be curated in partnership with FRAC Corsica. During the days open to the public, three study days will accompany and theoretically introduce the complexity of the works and the invited artists. The on-site exhibition will offer an immersive exploration of the festival's themes, providing a critical and poetic look at the links between feminism, ecology, and collective memory.
During the three days of the festival, round tables will bring together artists, curators, writers, researchers, museum directors, and other experts from France who have a direct connection with each scheduled video or artist. These meetings will deepen the relationships between power, ecology, and feminism, articulating different academic and artistic perspectives. By rethinking power as a dynamic based on cooperation, care, and social justice, rather than hierarchy and domination, WONDER WOMEN proposes new perspectives for a more equitable world that respects people and the environment. The festival aspires to establish a cross-border dialogue, enriching exchanges between France and Southern Italy, to bring about a future in which the values of solidarity, respect, and diversity play a central role in social and cultural transformation.
