The Domus Artist Residency is part of the Nouveau Grand Tour 2026, imagined by the Institut français d’Italie (IFI) / French Embassy in Italy, it is a residency program for artists under the age of thirty-five. Deployed across Italy through a network of partner institutions, it is part of the cultural component of the Quirinale Treaty and, since 2022, has promoted Franco-Italian cultural dialogue as well as European values of exchange and sharing.

The Nouveau Grand Tour is a multidisciplinary program open to artists from all creative fields: visual arts (painting, sculpture, photography, etc.), performing arts (theater, dance, circus, performance, music, etc.), writing, cinema and audiovisual, design, architecture and landscape, fashion, and crafts.

Each year, it offers 25 young French artists a one-month residency in Italy, between September and December 2026, with no obligation to produce work. The goal is to encourage research, immersion, and interaction with local cultural stakeholders.

New for 2026: Focus on Craftsmanship
For its 5th edition, the program emphasizes on creating a dialogue between contemporary creation and excellence in craftsmanship local craftsmanship, encouraging artists to engage with these skills in their respective regions.


The residency period at Domus Artist Residency will be from the 1 to 30 September 2026 or from 2 to 31 October 2026 for 1 person.

Conditions of Stay

  • Research Grant: €1,200

  • Living Allowance: €500 contribution toward living expenses

  • Travel Expenses: Reimbursement for round-trip travel between France and Italy (up to €400)

  • Eco-Bonus: If the artist chooses sustainable transportation (carpooling, train), they receive an eco-bonus of €50 each way upon presentation of receipts

  • Accommodation: Provided by Domus Artist Residency

  • Access to Facilities: Depending on the residency, access to rehearsal spaces, studios, and artistic, curatorial, and/or technical support

Eligibility Criteria

  • Be under 36 years old at the start of the residency

  • Hold French nationality or have resided in France for at least three years

  • Provide proof of civil liability insurance

  • Have a good command of English and/or Italian (minimum B2 level)
