OPEN STUDIO - MAY

  • domus artist residency (map)

Domus is pleased to welcome you for the May open studio with the artist in residence Anne Golaz that will be presenting : La Casa Isla, a layered documentary and fiction work by photographer Anne Golaz. It refers to the island off the coast of Chile that was the inspiration for Robinson Crusoe's shipwreck location, which Golaz visited with Swiss director Stéphane Goël during the production of his 2018 documentary film "Insulaire".

In this immersive artist book, the island is explored as a transitional space of hope and refuge and at the same time of isolation and imprisonment. A suggestive sequence of images and texts puts these ideas in contrast and in resonance.

In passages of prose and poetry, the island is charged with promises of relief and transformation, while narrator Golaz questions distance, memory and mortality. Photographs, watercolor illustrations and pages from the artist's sketchbook punctuate the narrative, creating a multifaceted visual language.

Anne Golaz's artistic practice is characterized by an interest in storytelling with a multidisciplinary approach that includes photography, drawing and text. She is currently working on her next book La Casa Isla, which will be published by MACK in autumn 2025, and on other projects that evoke the rural world, distance, emigration, mourning and memory.
