Luca Bandirali (PhD) is Associate Professor of Cinema, Photography, Radio, Television, and Digital Media (PEMM-01/B) at the Department of Cultural Heritage, University of Salento. He holds national scientific qualification as Full Professor in competition sector 10/C1 (theatre, music, cinema, television, and audiovisual media). Since November 2025, he has served as the Rector’s Delegate for Communication and Research Dissemination.
He is a member of the steering committees of Fata morgana and Fata Morgana Web. He led the local unit of the PRIN PNRR project Telling the Territory: The Documentary Production of Local Television Broadcasters in Calabria and Apulia (1974–2004) and served as scientific coordinator of the TOCC – Capacity Building for Cultural Operators to Manage the Digital Transition project.
Previously, he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Apulia Film Commission Foundation and of the Technical Evaluation Commission of the Apulia Film Fund. He also participated in the working group supporting the MIBACT commission for the allocation of selective grants for writing, development, pre-production, production, and national and international distribution of cinematographic and audiovisual works.
He is a founding member and Delegate for Cultural, Landscape, Environmental, and Economic-Business Heritage of the Interdepartmental Research Center in Digital Humanities at the University of Salento, where he also heads the Media Studies section of the Placetelling School.
His work has appeared in peer-reviewed journals such as Projections, Studies in European Cinema, SERIES, Comunicazioni sociali, Cinergie, Imago, Fata morgana, L’avventura, Mediascapes, Arabeschi, Quaderni del CSCI, Lingue e linguaggi, Scritture migranti, and Geotema. He contributes to the digital journal Fata Morgana Web and to the Treccani Institute’s Lingua Italiana magazine. He serves as a referee for 19 national and international scientific journals.
