YASMINE ABDRABBO

Residents March 2023

Yasmine Abdrabbo is an Egyptian Italian visual artist, cartoonist, and character designer. She works as a teaching assistant at the faculty of fine arts, painting department. Her passion in art lies in combining the aesthetics of European classicism with the Egyptian motives to create a syncretic art experience, in which she expresses personal vision inspired by the aesthetics values of kitsch and syncretism art.

Yasmine Abdrabbo's works therefore draw from both the Western and Eastern worlds, she uses classical precepts and themes in an Egyptian landscape, her figures are drawn in duality, with non-realistic colours; one of her works shows a revival of the painting 'Allegory of Patience' by the Italian Baroque artist Carlo Dolci; she was inspired by the movement of the body, the model's gaze and the theme itself, which presents a situation of pain, as the heroine awaits salvation while chained to a rock.
